Terminology

Here are terms, definitions and information important to ordering custom indexes:

Bank: A bank of indexes comprises a single row of tabs. A bank can have as few as one tab and as many as 30. The number of tabs in a bank determines the length of each tab. Obviously, the smaller a tab is, the shorter its title must be. Your job may comprise one bank of tabs (meaning one row) or multiple banks (two or more rows).

Collating: We can collate your finished order into sets or-to make collating of your materials easier-pack each tab individually in its own box, or carton.

Paper: We use a high quality 90# white index paper as its standard stock. However, there is a wide range of custom stock available to enhance your particular project. Please consult with your CSR representative, who can show you non-standard stocks that will accept laminate well.

Printing: A large range of type styles are available in black or virtually any color ink. We can print headings on tabs and print text and graphics on the body of an index. The printing requirements for the body of an index must be indicated when requesting a quote.

Punching: We can punch your indexes to match any type of binding system you choose. Comb, loose leaf and Velo binding are among our many capabilities.

Round cornering: We can round the edges of each tab divider sheet for several reasons-to prevent dog earing, to enhance the look of it, or to coordinate its design with text paper having rounded edges.

Strip reinforcement: Tear-proof polyester film laminated at the binding edge reinforces the holes of each index, increasing the product’s longevity. This strip reinforcement improves the integrity of the index and prevents it from ripping and slipping from its binding .

Tabs: This guide will help you determine which type of tab will best suit your needs.

Tab-cutting: Tabs are machine die-cut to ensure precision rounded edges. We’ll die-cut tabs to the length that you specify.

Carriers
Custom indexes are used, literally, in millions of bound materials. Whatever kind of binding a carrier has, we can prepare the binding edge of our indexes to match it.
